Montpellier HSC vs Monaco Tips and Prediction
Montpellier is now ranked 10th in Ligue 1, however their progress to this point has been uneven, with four wins and five losses.
However, the team has performed best at home, where they have won three of their first four games in front of home supporters.
Montpellier does, however, enter Sunday’s match after losing to Toulouse away from home in a thrilling six-goal game.
In that contest, Nicolas Cozza gave his team a lead in the seventh minute, and despite Elye Wahi’s own goal as well, Montpellier lost.
Only three teams—all of whom are in the bottom half of Ligue 1—have given up more goals than Montpellier to this point, so they certainly need to improve on their defensive side of the game.
Monaco, on the other hand, has been better defensively, and through their first four games, they have only given up twice on the road.
The offensive prowess of Philippe Clement’s team has been as excellent, as seen in midweek during their most recent Europa League contest.
Ben Yedder scored a brace as Monaco overcame Trabzonspor; central defender Axel Disasi also managed to score.
The Monegasques are currently five points out of contention for a Champions League spot, but they will be looking to move closer to that position this season.
They might put significant pressure on those above them if they go on a sustained winning streak, and after three straight victories in their previous games, they may be well on their way to doing so.
In this game, Montpellier has the home advantage, which may be very important for them as they try to start moving up the league standings.
However, Monaco will be the favorites to win because they are currently in better form and are coming off of a significant victory.
